Thank you to everyone that supported our event and our wounded warriors
We raised $17,905 and had 315 Runners!

On Sunday, October 6th, 2013, support for wounded warriors was on display at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, Virginia, as runners, walkers, and volunteers came together for the seventh installment of the annual event. With a record-breaking turnout, participants completed the loop around Lake Burke, to show their appreciation for those who have bravely served and sacrificed for our nation and military. Thanks to race sponsors J. M. Waller Associates, Inc.ģ (J. M. Waller) and Halfaker & Associates, LLC, who covered the expenses of the race, 100 percent of all registrations and donations, will go directly to the Wounded Warrior Project and their affiliates. The run had a record number of participants this year when 315 people took the lap around the lake and raised $17,905 for the noble cause.

In past years, the annual run dealt with rain, near freezing temperatures, or a combination of both. This year there was no need to brave the elements to show support, as Mother Nature was willing to contribute picturesque blue skies and ideal running temperatures that hovered around 70 degrees. With the weather conditions in place, 83 individuals took advantage of the walk-up registration period and joined together with the highest percentage turnout of pre-registrants in six years to form the largest contingent of runners in the history of the event. With a total participation rate of over 93 percent, runners, joggers, and walkers completed the 4.7-mile course around the lake. The participants followed the trail around Lake Burke, which has been rated as one of the ten best fitness trails in the nation by the American Hiking Society.

The event was made possible by the efforts of the co-sponsors J. M. Waller and Halfaker & Associates, LLC. The two companies covered all expenses of the event to ensure that all the money raised would go directly to the wounded warriors and their families. The firms adopted this event as a major company commitment to give something back and the volunteer efforts of the employees from both firms make this possible.

Weíd also like to thank Starbucks for their donation and give recognition to American Color Labs, Walker Advertising, PaRunners, Donís Johns, and PalmerCare Chiropractic for their support.

Back in 2007, J. M. Waller, a local Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business decided to hold an event, designed to give back by raising money and awareness for those that have served and put themselves in harmís way on our behalf. The Run Around the Lake was born. The next year Halfaker & Associates, LLC, another local, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, Woman-Owned, 8(a) small business, joined with J. M. Waller and helped strengthen the team and communities ties. In 2008, the relationship with the Run Around the Lake and the Wounded Warrior Project blossomed. Over the course of the seven-year history of the Run Around the Lake, the event has had over 1500 participants, and with the help of all the participants, donors, volunteers, and local business support, we raised $118,750 for wounded warriors and their families!

The Annual Run Around the Lake and their sponsors are proud to be affiliated with the Wounded Warrior Project. As an organization with a mission to honor and empower Wounded Warriors, their purpose is to raise awareness and enlist the publicís aid for the needs of injured service members. They help injured service members assist each other while providing unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. With a vision of fostering the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nationís history, the organization has just celebrated ten years of services and over 35,000 alumni assisted.
