US Air Force Recruit Housing and Training Master Plan, Lackland AFBJ. M. Waller Associates, Inc. (JMWA) is developing the Master Plan supporting the next generation of the Recruit Housing and Training campus at Lackland AFB, TX. JMWA conducted comprehensive research into the processes involved in the Air Force Basic Training programs and worked to develop facilities that will be integral to into those processes.
The Master Plan encompasses dormitories, dining halls, classrooms, athletic facilities, and administrative support facilities utilized during the seven-week basic training regimen that all new members of the Air Force must undergo. The facilities supporting these efforts must be integrated not only with the overall Lackland infrastructure and its other training missions, but must allow interaction with other existing facilities that support the Basic Training mission. The overall campus will accommodate production of approximately 45,000 graduates per year utilizing seven training cycles of seven weeks each. The total scope of the eventual campus will include approximately 2 million SF of dormitories and approximately 334,000 SF of support facilities for a total of approximately 2.3 million SF with construction estimated at $550 M.
The comprehensive planning approach included a number of supporting studies which were undertaken to define the overall concept. We performed a systems analysis to determine the types of facilities, infrastructure analysis, traffic and circulation studies, force protection analysis, developed a phasing and sequencing plan, interior and exterior standards, programming documents and cost estimates.
